Choice 6: Acts 12. Herod and Peter

Read Acts 12. Compare and contrast the two main characters. Complete the following chart:

Herod, the King

Peter, the Prophet

What motivated each of them?

Herod was motivated by the people crying out how much they enjoyed the fact that James was killed by the sword. In other words he was motivated when the Jews were satisfied in Herod taking the life of James

Peter was motivated by the delivering power of the angel that came from God. He believed that it was by this miracle that he had been saved.
How did they deal with others?

He decided to imprison Peter to do the same thing. When peter was gone he killed the guards in charge of watching over Peter and left to another country where he dressed in royal appeal.
Peter went unto the house of James and showed them that he was still alive because of the Lord who had been merciful unto Him and allowed for it to be that way.
How did God deal with them?

As he spoke of the oration that he received and then because he did not give God the glory then the Lord had an angel go and smite Herod so that he was eaten by worms and later died.
God sent the angel to free peter in the first place,  but then continued to bless Peter through his travels and allowed for the word to grow and multiply
